-
Colorado's notorious anti-gay amendment is put on hold
-

-
Even before it became part of state law, Colorado's
- Amendment 2 was stirring up a national boycott. But now it is no
- longer clear when, or even if, Amendment 2 will ever become law.
- Approved by voters in November, the amendment--which would
- prohibit the state or its localities from passing laws that
- specifically guarantee homosexuals protection against
- discrimination--was scheduled to take effect last Friday. But
- that afternoon, Colorado Judge Jeffrey Bayless granted an
- injunction pending the outcome of a lawsuit that argues the
- amendment is unconstitutional.
-

-
The decision means that the law will remain on hold for
- months to come. What remains to be seen is how it will affect
- the burgeoning national movement to boycott Colorado until
- Amendment 2 is reversed. In the past week alone, in a distinctly
- a-material gesture, singer Madonna said she will shun Colorado
- "until the amendment is lifted."
